Description
The Scimitar, also known as the Cutlass sword, was used by Muslim armies during the Crusades and is considered a symbol of Arab horsemen. It has a short curved single-edged blade and was used by both Turks and Persians. Many Islamic traditions adopted the scimitar, as seen on the coats of arms of Saudi Arabia and East Timor. The sword was produced in various shapes during the Moorish period in Spain. The Marto 582 Alfanje Plata is a reproduction of a cutlass found in a museum in Madrid, Spain. It has a crossward and a wide curved blade, and is a reminder of Toledo's importance in sword production during the Arab Islamic periods.
